The programme is part of a broader strategy aimed at combining green hydrogen \u2014 produced via <strong>Small Modular Reactors<\/strong> \u2014 with cutting-edge autonomous robotic systems.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle is designed to operate without an onboard operator, handling surveillance, AI-assisted military operations and hazardous site management. Propulsion is hybrid: solar panels, batteries and a hydrogen fuel cell deliver extended range, low acoustic signature and zero emissions. The patented, foldable chassis features eight semi-robotic leg-wheel assemblies that maintain continuous four-point ground contact, tackling uneven terrain where conventional wheeled systems fail. The platform supports hot-swappable mission modules \u2014 logistics cradles, ISR sensor masts, drone launch-and-recovery systems and refuelling stations. Amphibious capability, completed and patent-protected as of May 2026, rounds out the feature set.<\/p>\n<p>On the aerial threat front, the pace of change is relentless. Individual FPV drone attacks have given way to coordinated, increasingly complex multi-drone operations. Traditional defence systems are struggling to keep up. AI applied to UGVs transforms these vehicles from passive monitoring tools into autonomous rapid-response networks, capable of multi-sensor data fusion, target recognition and autonomous interception. <strong>First Hydrogen<\/strong> is banking on exactly this level of capability, recruiting specialists in robotics, defence, embedded systems and industrial automation to build a multidisciplinary team dedicated to platform development. The drone market is currently valued at approximately $91.9 billion and is projected to reach $210.3 billion by 2034, at a compound annual growth rate of 9.63%.<\/p>\n<p>The nuclear connection is far from peripheral. In 2025, the company launched subsidiary <strong>First Nuclear Corp.<\/strong>, dedicated to green hydrogen production via SMR technology. SMRs \u2014 compact and requiring refuelling only every three to seven years, compared with one to two years for conventional plants \u2014 enable productive capacity to be deployed wherever the electricity grid is absent or inadequate. The hydrogen produced in this way fuels both the commercial fuel cell vehicle fleet already road-tested in the United Kingdom and, prospectively, military and industrial UGVs. The business model is called Hydrogen-as-a-Service, and its robotic extension follows naturally: Drones-as-a-Service, on a subscription basis, with no upfront hardware purchase or maintenance costs for the customer.<\/p>\n<p>First Hydrogen holds exclusive worldwide rights to the patented UGV technology, with an obligation to complete a commercially viable prototype within two years. Upon reaching that milestone, the rights extend for the remaining life of the patent, subject to a 1% royalty on sales. The global robotics market is estimated at around $88 billion in 2026 and could reach $218 billion by 2031. If the nuclear-hydrogen UGV platform proves operationally reliable in the field, it could fill the gap that currently exists between heavy tracked vehicles \u2014 costly and inflexible \u2014 and robotic quadrupeds, which suffer from limited payload and reduced endurance.
