This is no peripheral topic: according to the OECD-NEA, AI is already being integrated into multi-physics modeling of reactor systems, with direct implications for the design, safety, and licensing analysis of next-generation reactors. Further sessions examined nuclear power generation and its societal implications, with a particular focus on <strong>Small Modular Reactors<\/strong> \u2014 the compact modular units from which India expects a great deal over the coming decade.<\/p>\n<p>The conference takes place against a well-defined backdrop. India has embarked on a significant shift in nuclear energy policy, opening the sector to private participation and placing SMRs at the heart of its capacity expansion plans. This push is driven in part by the explosive growth in electricity demand from AI infrastructure and data centers: Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Google have each committed investments exceeding ten billion dollars in the country, and the need for stable, continuous power supply for digital infrastructure is one of the key factors making nuclear energy strategically attractive. SMRs, with electrical output of up to 300 MW, can be factory-built and deployed even in remote areas \u2014 features well suited to a large country like India, where transmission grids remain uneven.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to hold a conference of this scope at a university in India&#8217;s Northeast \u2014 a region historically on the margins of major national research centers \u2014 is deliberate. <strong>ICFAI University Tripura<\/strong>, established in 2004, has steadily built a solid reputation in scientific research, backed by accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities. INP-NPG 2026 follows other international events organized by the university, including FroCAP2025, focused on cosmology, astrophysics, and particle physics.
