The results are clear-cut: indicated palladium-equivalent ounces have risen 31%, from 11.41 to 15.0 million ounces, while the indicated grade has grown 36% to 3.04 g/t PdEq. Inferred resources increased 24% to 17.49 million ounces. The estimate is updated as of July 3, 2026.

Independent consultant SLR Consulting Canada revised the deposit’s block model using an improved methodology that better reflects the actual geometry of the mineralization, alongside updated metal prices — gold at $3,500 per ounce and palladium at approximately $1,274. Skaergaard is hosted within the Triple Group of the Skaergaard magmatic intrusion, roughly 400 km west of Iceland, with fjord access and a nearby airstrip. Mineralization is distributed across seven stratiform horizons, each typically two to five meters thick. This is no niche or small-scale deposit: it ranks among the largest undeveloped palladium, gold, and platinum deposits in the world.

The resource upgrade is more than an accounting update. S-K 1300 compliance is the minimum requirement to commission an Initial Assessment — the American equivalent of a preliminary economic study. Without a compliant report, the path to financial feasibility remains blocked. Skaergaard now has that foundation. Results from the 2026 drilling campaign will feed into open-pit scenario evaluations, alongside engineering and metallurgical studies assigned to the company’s technical partners. Titanium, vanadium, and gallium present in the deposit have yet to be assessed, leaving open the possibility of further upside from by-products.

The broader market context makes the news all the more significant. Metals Focus estimates that global platinum group metals supply will fall a further 2.2% in 2026 to 13.9 million ounces, following production disruptions in South Africa and declining North American output. The Stillwater West mine in the United States has been placed under care and maintenance. Approximately 70–80% of the world’s palladium comes from Russia and South Africa — two sources Washington regards as carrying high geopolitical risk. Against this backdrop, a deposit near Iceland operated by a Nasdaq-listed company carries strategic weight well beyond its geology.

The name Energy Fuels (NYSE: UUUU) comes up frequently in discussions about American critical materials, and for good reason. The company operates White Mesa Mill in Utah — the only conventionally licensed, active uranium processing facility in the United States — which has expanded its operations to cover rare earth elements, vanadium, and heavy mineral sands. In June 2026, it secured a conditional commitment of $725 million from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital: a twenty-year loan to expand rare earth processing capacity and build a new domestic facility. Energy Fuels has already reached commercial production of neodymium-praseodymium and is scaling up separation toward heavy rare earths such as dysprosium and terbium.

Skaergaard and White Mesa tell the same story from different angles: America’s drive to build critical materials supply chains independent of China and Russia runs through the nuclear sector as well. If the 2026 drilling campaign confirms the updated geological models and the Initial Assessment delivers viable economics, the Greenland project could become a strategically significant asset within a few years — not only for its owners, but for Western industrial policy as a whole.

Greenland Mines has updated the resource estimate for the Skaergaard project, with indicated palladium-equivalent ounces rising 31% to 15 million ounces and average grade up 36%.
