The Paris-based startup, founded in 2021, has announced a merger with <strong>NewHold Investment Corp. Since 2021, the company has raised more than $780 million in private capital from investors including Azimut, Exor Ventures, and <strong>Bpifrance<\/strong>. Once the listing is complete, total funding will exceed one billion dollars. The first commercial reactor \u2014 a 30 MWe unit \u2014 is planned for France in 2031, while in Italy, at the ENEA Research Centre in Brasimone, construction is underway on the PRECURSOR demonstration system: a scaled-down 10 MWe facility designed to replicate the core functions of the LFR-AS-30 and generate electricity via turbine.<\/p>\n<p>The broader environment is supportive. M&#038;A activity in the European nuclear sector hit a seven-year high in 2025, and the European Commission has published its Nuclear Indicative Programme 2026, estimating investment needs of $280 billion in large-scale reactors by 2050. For SMRs alone, installed capacity is expected to reach between 17 and 53 GWe by the same date. In March 2026, the Commission also established a \u20ac200 million guarantee fund to support private investment in SMR development. The sector has strong tailwinds: surging energy demand from AI-driven data centers has sharpened institutional investor appetite for firm, low-carbon generation sources.<\/p>\n<p>On December 10, 2026, at Zurich&#8217;s <strong>Dolder Grand<\/strong> hotel, the <strong>Europe SPAC Summit<\/strong> will bring together \u2014 in a closed-door format \u2014 leading SPAC sponsors, investors, and high-growth European companies. Among the deals already closed or announced alongside Newcleo are companies such as IQM, Terra Quantum, Pasqal, OpenPayd, and Einride, operating respectively in quantum computing, fintech, and mobility. The Summit opens with a session featuring Kyivstar, Ukraine&#8217;s largest mobile operator, whose Nasdaq listing via a Cohen Circle-sponsored SPAC demonstrates that the instrument works for European companies. Brandon Sun of Cohen &amp; Company will provide a market dynamics read-out \u2014 covering issuances, redemptions, and PIPE activity \u2014 looking ahead to 2027. Dedicated sessions will cover quantum computing, nuclear energy, cybersecurity, and defense technology: sectors that are currently commanding strong valuations and solid liquidity on US markets.<\/p>\n<p>That Newcleo is reaching the Nasdaq ahead of its first commercial reactor says something significant about where European nuclear stands today. Capital is arriving before the technology is ready \u2014 and in doing so, it accelerates the technology itself.
