General Fusion<\/strong> has become the first fusion company to go public and has released its first update as a listed company. The message is straightforward: the LM26<\/strong> demonstration machine is operational, the funding is secured, and the technical roadmap is defined through 2028.<\/p>\n

The Canadian company completed its merger with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III<\/strong> and is now trading on Nasdaq. The deal brought in approximately $150 million in cash, including net proceeds from the private placement and the transaction’s trust capital. That liquidity is earmarked to fund the LM26 program through a series of technical milestones General Fusion intends to reach by 2028, with the goal of demonstrating its magnetized target fusion (MTF) technology at a commercially relevant scale.<\/p>\n

LM26 is the first MTF demonstration machine built at commercially significant scale. Designed, assembled, and commissioned in under two years, it mechanically compresses plasma using a lithium liner at 50% of the diameter of a full commercial plant. The technical path is structured in stages: first heating the plasma to 1 keV \u2014 equivalent to 10 million degrees Celsius \u2014 then to 10 keV, or 100 million degrees, and finally achieving the Lawson criterion<\/strong>, the combination of parameters required to produce net energy from plasma. Each step is measurable, verifiable, and publicly accountable now that the company is subject to regulated market disclosure obligations.<\/p>\n

General Fusion’s MTF technology is built around a deliberate design choice: avoiding superconducting magnets and high-power lasers, which make other fusion approaches expensive and difficult to scale up industrially. The machine relies on existing materials and simpler mechanical architectures. This translates into lower construction costs and a more credible path toward commercial power plants within the next decade. This is not a vague promise \u2014 it is the premise on which General Fusion raised institutional capital through a PIPE that was already oversubscribed at the time of signing.<\/p>\n

The Nasdaq listing marks a structural shift for the entire private fusion sector. General Fusion is now the first pure-play fusion company<\/em> to operate under analyst scrutiny, with quarterly reporting obligations. This sets a precedent.
