Executed on August 31, 2026, the agreement will cover the full operational life of the project \u2014 from construction through to decommissioning and site reclamation.<\/p>\n<p>The project lies within the traditional territory of the Birch Narrows Dene Nation, in the southwestern portion of the <strong>Athabasca Basin<\/strong>, one of the world&#8217;s most prolific high-grade uranium regions. The agreement sets out how Paladin Canada and the Indigenous community will work together to structure and share the economic and social benefits arising from the site&#8217;s development. The nation has also formally confirmed its full support for the project across all phases: development, production, decommissioning, and remediation. This is no mere formality \u2014 under Canada&#8217;s regulatory framework, meaningful consent from local communities is a substantive requirement for obtaining the necessary licences.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the third agreement that <strong>Paladin Canada Inc.<\/strong>, the Canadian subsidiary of Paladin Energy, has signed for Patterson Lake South. In February 2025, the company had already concluded similar deals with the <strong>Buffalo River Dene Nation<\/strong> and the <strong>Clearwater River Dene Nation<\/strong>. Together, the three MBAs form a comprehensive Indigenous community engagement framework covering a broad territorial perimeter around the site. The path to a final agreement with the Birch Narrows Dene Nation had begun in April 2026, with the signing of a binding term sheet.<\/p>\n<p>On the regulatory front, the project has already cleared a key milestone: the <strong>Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission<\/strong> has deemed Paladin&#8217;s construction licence application complete, formally triggering its review. An administrative protocol targets the completion of licence hearings by end of 2027. Paladin Energy also holds a 75% stake in the <strong>Langer Heinrich Mine<\/strong> in Namibia, where production has reached the levels set out in the company&#8217;s FY2026 guidance, and maintains a portfolio of exploration assets in the Athabasca Basin, Newfoundland, and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson Lake South is classified by the company as a tier-one deposit: high uranium grades and shallow mineralisation, characteristics that keep extraction costs well below those of deeper, more complex sites. With three community agreements in place and the regulatory process at an advanced stage, Paladin is moving concretely toward the decisive licensing phase.
