Westinghouse<\/strong> has signed conditional purchase orders with four Polish companies to supply structural modules for the first AP1000 unit at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino plant in Pomerania. The companies are Energomonta\u017c-P\u00f3\u0142noc Gdynia (EPG), FAMAK, Mostostal Kielce and Mostostal Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n

Each company has a defined scope. Mostostal Kielce will work on wall module CA02 and EPG on module CA03: both are part of the in-containment refueling water storage tank. Mostostal Krak\u00f3w will build module CA05, which comprises reinforced steel plates that separate rooms in the reactor building. FAMAK will manufacture floor module CA20, steel-backed reinforced concrete slabs that support heavy equipment.<\/p>\n

The orders are conditional. Westinghouse will award the full scope of work after NQA-1 certification, the quality standard for safety-related nuclear components, and after the fabrication of qualification prototypes. Dan Lipman, president of Westinghouse’s Global Business Initiatives division, said the company has been impressed by the technical capabilities of Polish industry. Marek Woszczyk, president of Polskie Elektrownie J\u0105drowe (PEJ)<\/strong>, described the orders as tangible proof of the involvement of local businesses.<\/p>\n

The move comes a week after another milestone. On 8 October 2026, PEJ instructed Westinghouse to begin procurement of long-lead components for the first unit: six key nuclear island items, including the reactor pressure vessel and related structural modules. The go-ahead follows the September agreement between PEJ and the Bechtel-Westinghouse consortium on the main commercial terms of the EPC contract. Woszczyk explained that ordering cost-intensive components early allows better control of spending over the coming years.<\/p>\n

The project envisages three AP1000<\/strong> reactors totaling about 3 GW. The site was handed over to Bechtel in August, and negotiations on the EPC contract are scheduled to conclude by year-end. First power generation is expected in 2036. More than one billion zloty in contracts has already gone to Polish companies.<\/p>\n

The AP1000 design uses modular construction techniques: large prefabricated steel and concrete modules are built in a factory and then installed on site. For this reason, the qualification of local suppliers weighs on the schedule. Westinghouse notes that the design has also been selected by Bulgaria and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

If the four companies pass NQA-1 certification, they will join a supply chain that can serve other AP1000 construction sites around the world. Woszczyk cites this as a goal: a Polish industrial base capable of supplying future projects as well as its own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
