The aim is to present the Canadian province’s nuclear industry to international investors and operators and to open up new contracts for its companies.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister David Marit is in Japan from October 17 to 22. He will meet longtime buyers of Saskatchewan agri-food products, as well as companies interested in opportunities in agriculture, minerals and fuels. Japan is the province’s third-largest agricultural export market.

Saskatchewan has a strong hand to play. It is home to the world’s largest high-grade uranium deposits, produces 100 percent of Canada’s uranium and is the world’s second-largest producer. Around the mines, a network of suppliers, research institutions and businesses has taken shape, working on nuclear projects in Canada and abroad. Harrison describes it as a supply chain already active on the global stage and set to grow through missions of this kind.

The province currently has no reactors on its electricity grid. To change that, it has adopted the plan Delivering Energy Security Through Nuclear Power, which sets a goal of at least 2,600 megawatts of nuclear power by 2050. The plan is meant to ensure reliable, affordable electricity for a growing population, expanding industries and major investment projects.

The choice of the Philippines is no accident. Manila and Saskatchewan signed a memorandum of understanding in June 2025 on energy transition and nuclear workforce training. On February 24, 2026, the joint working group met in Bonifacio Global City, with Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff and the Philippine Department of Energy. On the table were training, research and cooperation on SMRs.

Saskatchewan already took its pitch to the same conference in Poland in May 2025, where Harrison claimed a role for the province in the global goal of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050. After Warsaw, Manila. If the contacts translate into supply contracts and university agreements, Saskatchewan will be able to present itself as a supplier of uranium and expertise to an Asia that is building its first nuclear programs.

Minister Jeremy Harrison is leading a Saskatchewan delegation to the Philippines from October 17 to 23, 2026, for the World Nuclear Supply Chain Conference.
