The announcement was made on October 14, 2026. The facility is a 606-megawatt combined-cycle gas plant near Houston, Texas, operating in the ERCOT market.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed in August. The agreed price is $860 million before closing adjustments, according to SEC filings. The plant was previously known as the Jack A. Fusco Energy Center. Final figures for the completed transaction have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The sale stems from the agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice over the acquisition of <strong>Calpine<\/strong>, which closed on January 7, 2026. That deal created the world&#8217;s largest private power producer. To secure antitrust clearance, however, Constellation had to divest a portion of the gas-fired plants it inherited. In its August announcement, the company described Brazos Valley as the last sale required under its regulatory commitments.<\/p>\n<p>Still to be completed is the sale, also to LS Power, of about 4.4 gigawatts of gas-fired capacity in Delaware and Pennsylvania. The plants are Bethlehem, York 1, York 2, Hay Road and Edge Moor, all located in the PJM market area. The deal is valued at $5 billion before adjustments, with closing expected by the end of 2026. Taken together, the two divestitures are worth nearly $6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>For Constellation, which describes itself as the largest nuclear company in the United States, the end of the divestitures frees up room to maneuver. The group operates about 55 gigawatts of capacity and serves roughly 2.5 million customers. In the second quarter it signed another 920 megawatts of long-term nuclear supply contracts, running 15 to 20 years, with start dates between 2029 and 2032. Among them is the 176-megawatt agreement with Walmart, which supports a 30-megawatt capacity uprate at the Dresden plant in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>On the plant front, the <strong>Nuclear Regulatory Commission<\/strong> has approved the fuel license amendment for the Crane Clean Energy Center, the former Three Mile Island Unit 1. Restart is planned for 2027. With its balance sheet lightened of the gas assets mandated by the regulator, the company can focus capital and attention on these projects, in a market where data centers are demanding continuous, emissions-free power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Constellation has completed the sale of the 606 MW Brazos Valley gas plant in Texas to LS Power in a deal valued at $860 million.
