AlphaPX Joins INL’s Project Prometheus to Bring AI to the Nuclear Supply Chain

AlphaPX has joined Project Prometheus, led by Idaho National Laboratory — a $60 million U.S. Department of Energy initiative aimed at applying artificial intelligence across the entire nuclear supply chain. The company will contribute human-supervised AI capabilities for supplier qualification, technical documentation, and operational readiness.

AlphaPX Joins INL’s Project Prometheus to Bring AI to the Nuclear Supply Chain

AlphaPX has announced its participation as a named industry partner in Project Prometheus, the initiative led by Idaho National Laboratory (INL) under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission. The DOE selected Prometheus in July 2026 for a Phase II award of $60 million over three years, subject to congressional appropriations.

The project brings together national laboratories, universities, and private industry with the shared goal of applying artificial intelligence across the entire nuclear value chain: reactor design, licensing, manufacturing, construction, and operations. AlphaPX will contribute its Operational Intelligence and human-supervised AI capabilities to the consortium — an approach the company describes as essential for ensuring reliability and auditability of outputs. This is a targeted, not a generic, contribution: AlphaPX’s systems will focus on workflows related to the acquisition and structuring of complex technical documentation, a factor often overlooked yet critical to supplier qualification.

The problem Prometheus aims to solve is a real one. Suppliers and engineering organizations operating in the nuclear supply chain must navigate increasingly complex qualification and documentation requirements. These processes typically rely on fragmented documentation, uncodified institutional knowledge, and manual reviews that demand highly specialized experts. The result is a supply chain that is slow, expensive, and difficult to scale — precisely at a time when demand for new nuclear capacity is surging. AlphaPX works to transform distributed business data, technical documents, and institutional know-how into structured knowledge and AI-assisted workflows.

Project Prometheus is now one of the broadest consortia in the U.S. nuclear sector. INL is collaborating with Argonne, Oak Ridge, and Sandia National Laboratories, four universities, and more than twenty industry partners. Among the already-announced members, Nvidia and AWS serve as key technology partners, while on the reactor side, X-energy participates as a Tier 1 founding member, contributing the designs for its Xe-100 small modular reactor and TRISO-X fuel. The stated objective is to compress construction and commissioning timelines, with ambitions to cut current deployment schedules in half.

AlphaPX’s entry into the consortium signals a clear direction: the next wave of nuclear growth depends not only on better reactors, but on the ability to operationalize decades of accumulated engineering knowledge. If AI can successfully structure and make that knowledge accessible, the supply chain will be able to respond faster to new project demands, reducing bottlenecks in supplier qualification. Prometheus is still in its early stages, but the model it is building — federal laboratories, big tech, and private industry coordinated around measurable objectives — could become the benchmark for future nuclear expansion programs worldwide.
