Hadron Energy has appointed Eric Williams, former Chief Operating Officer of TerraPower, as Executive Vice President of Engineering. The role takes effect on August 31, 2026. The goal is to advance the Halo micro-modular reactor from the development phase into commercial production.
Williams brings thirty years of experience in advanced reactor design and operations. At TerraPower, he rose through the ranks to the top operational role, overseeing engineering, nuclear fuel, regulatory affairs, supply chain, and quality across the company’s entire project portfolio. The most significant milestone of his tenure was securing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s construction permit for Natrium — the first such permit ever issued in the United States for an advanced commercial SMR. Prior to becoming COO, he served as Senior Vice President and Design Authority for the 345-megawatt-electric Natrium demonstration project, with direct responsibility over all engineering and design testing activities.
At Hadron Energy — listed on Nasdaq under the ticker HDRN since May 2026 — Williams will lead an engineering organization spanning hardware, software, systems, product, manufacturing, testing and validation, quality, and program management. The Halo reactor is a light-water pressurized design rated at 10 megawatts electric, built to be factory-manufactured and transported to the installation site. Target markets include data centers, heavy industry, and applications requiring continuous, dispatchable power in remote or grid-constrained locations.
The appointment comes at a defining moment in Hadron’s lifecycle: three months after its stock market debut, with the reactor still in development but a regulatory roadmap yet to be built. Bringing on board someone who has already filed — and won — a construction permit application with the NRC for an advanced commercial reactor materially reduces execution risk. The U.S. regulatory path for new nuclear designs is long and highly technical; having navigated it before makes a measurable difference.
Williams’ career also includes stints at B&W mPower, where he worked on safety analysis and small-scale reactor design, and at Framatome, in the areas of nuclear safety and severe accident scenarios. His profile spans multiple generations of SMR technology, from first-generation programs to today’s micro-modular reactors designed for serial manufacturing.
The micro-modular reactor sector is undergoing an intense consolidation of technical leadership. Companies targeting commercialization within the decade know that engineering talent with hands-on regulatory experience is the scarcest resource on the market. Hadron’s move signals that the race is not purely technological — it is also a competition for the people who can translate a design into a permit, and a permit into steel and concrete.
