SAGA Metals on 29 October 2026 published a geological comparison between its Wolverine heavy rare earth project in Labrador and two sector benchmarks: Strange Lake, on the Québec–Labrador border, and Tanbreez, in southern Greenland. The Canadian company, listed on the TSXV under the ticker SAGA, also holds an asset of direct interest to the nuclear sector: the Double Mer uranium project.
Double Mer is 100% owned by SAGA and covers 25,600 hectares. Radiometric surveys indicate an 18-kilometre east-west uranium trend. Mineralization has been confirmed on the ground over 14 kilometres, with samples returning up to 0.428% U3O8. These are surface exploration results, not a resource estimate.
The Wolverine comparison, by contrast, concerns rare earths. Strange Lake, operated by Torngat Metals, is hosted in peralkaline granite and pegmatite. Tanbreez, owned by Critical Metals Corp., sits in a layered nepheline syenite. Wolverine has a different host rock: a volcanic tuff with hydrothermal veins and pegmatite dykes. According to SAGA, this geometry opens a distinct exploration pathway. Heavy rare earth oxides, including yttrium, average roughly 28% of the total in 2025 drill intercepts. Historical assays have returned up to 2.03% TREO.
SAGA itself spells out the limits of the comparison. Strange Lake and Tanbreez are more advanced, with published resource estimates and permitting or process work under way. Wolverine is at the exploration stage and has no mineral resource. Data on the two peer projects come from their owners’ disclosures and have not been verified by SAGA’s qualified person. The 2026 program targets a maiden NI 43-101 resource estimate, with diamond drilling and targeted campaigns on other prospects.
The backdrop is the push for critical raw materials outside China. Uranium and rare earths share the same logic: Western supply chains less dependent on a handful of suppliers. For nuclear, new uranium projects in Canada, historically the world’s leading producer of the fuel, feed the supply pipeline for today’s reactors and tomorrow’s SMRs.
SAGA’s next steps are the assays still pending from 22 drill holes and the metallurgical data. These will show whether Wolverine can enter the same conversation as Strange Lake and Tanbreez, and how much room the company will give Double Mer in its portfolio.
