Chinese SIL3 Modules for Nuclear: Beijing Pinghe at CIPPE 2026

Beijing Pinghe Chuangye Technology showcased its T Series signal isolators at CIPPE 2026, featuring TÜV Rheinland SIL3 certification and over 7 million units already deployed across industrial sites worldwide, including nuclear. The modules combine ATEX and IECEx explosion-proof approvals with SIL3 functional safety in a compact 12.5 mm form factor.

Beijing Pinghe Chuangye Technology brought its T Series signal isolators and galvanic safety barriers — certified to TÜV Rheinland SIL3 — to CIPPE 2026, the 26th edition of the China International Petroleum and Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition. Seven million modules are already operating at industrial sites around the world, with direct deployment in nuclear, metallurgy, chemicals, and marine applications.

The technical core of the T Series is a proprietary PCB-based planar transformer. This solution ensures uniform energy transfer and galvanic isolation up to 4000 V/AC. The physical footprint is 12.5 mm wide — 45% narrower than standard modules, a meaningful advantage in the compact control rooms of modern nuclear facilities. Input, output, and power terminals are color-coded to reduce wiring errors, and RTD and TC signal configuration is handled via USB port.

The SIL3 certification, issued by TÜV Rheinland under the IEC 61508 standard, quantifies the probability of failure on demand (PFD) of the safety function, the safe failure fraction, and the diagnostic coverage of internal circuits. A SIL3-certified module must not only perform correctly under emergency conditions — it must make any fault detectable, never silent. This requirement maps directly onto the safety instrumented systems (SIS) of nuclear power plants, where the response to an abnormal signal must be both reliable and verifiable. The modules also carry ATEX and IECEx approvals for environments with explosive gas or dust atmospheres, alongside compliance with Chinese national standards GB3836.1-2010 and GB3836.4-2010. Having both functional safety and explosion protection on a single product reduces the number of components that need to be qualified during plant design.

The modules support HART and ModBus-RTU communication protocols and offer surge protection up to 20 kA (8/20 µs) per line. The decision to present these products at CIPPE — a show focused on the oil & gas and petrochemical sectors — reflects a cross-market positioning strategy: the same hardware qualified for ATEX zones in petrochemical plants can enter nuclear control systems without substantial modification. The certification does the heavy lifting, not a dedicated product variant.

With China targeting the commissioning of dozens of new reactors by 2035 and global demand for qualified nuclear components on a steady upward trajectory, a product portfolio combining SIL3, ATEX, and IECEx in a compact form factor addresses a genuine industry need. The challenge for Chinese manufacturers will be securing nuclear-specific qualifications in international markets — a longer road, but one made more viable by the certification foundations already in place.
