Fusion is a scientifically important prospect, but the main demonstration programmes do not yet supply commercial electricity to the grid. ITER, for example, is a research experiment, not an electricity generating station. IAEA sources clearly distinguish between scientific progress and industrial availability. Energy decisions for the coming decades cannot be based on the assumption that fusion will render already available technologies obsolete.
