Hadron Energy has appointed Eric Williams as Executive Vice President of Engineering, effective August 31, 2026. Williams joins from TerraPower, where he spent twelve years rising to the role of EVP and COO, overseeing the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s approval of the Natrium reactor construction permit — the first ever granted for an advanced commercial SMR in the United States.
The project Williams led at TerraPower is the 345 MWe Natrium reactor, a sodium-cooled design with integrated thermal energy storage, built to complement renewable energy sources. Securing NRC approval for that design required years of safety analysis, regulatory negotiation, and coordination across hundreds of engineers. Williams was at the helm of that entire operation. Bringing that expertise to a startup like Hadron is a deliberate move: it’s not just a high-profile hire — it’s the acquisition of a proven methodology for navigating one of the world’s most complex licensing processes.
Before TerraPower, Williams worked on safety analysis and reactor design for the B&W mPower program, another American SMR initiative, and previously at Framatome on nuclear safety and severe accident scenarios. His track record is consistent: an entire career focused on small and medium-sized reactor design with a specific emphasis on passive safety and licensing pathways. Hadron has chosen someone who knows precisely every technical and regulatory step that stands between a reactor on paper and one that’s actually generating power.
The reactor Williams will be working on is the Halo Micro-Modular Reactor, the flagship product of Hadron Energy, a Nasdaq-listed company trading under the ticker HDRN. The company describes the appointment as a key step toward commercializing the Halo MMR, pointing to three concrete assets already in place: a debt-free balance sheet, key milestones already achieved in the NRC licensing process, and strategic agreements covering simulators and uranium fuel supply. Williams isn’t walking into a blank slate — he’s building on an existing foundation.
Hadron has been steadily expanding its technical team in recent months with targeted hires drawn from TerraPower, NuScale, and the commercial reactor operations sector. The strategy is clear: develop in-house the capability to take the Halo MMR through licensing and into construction, reducing dependence on external consultants. It’s a costlier approach in the short term, but one that — if the roadmap holds — could significantly compress licensing timelines. With Williams now leading engineering, Hadron has a figure who has already walked that road all the way to the finish line.
