The Japan Go IPO Summit 2026 has placed nuclear fusion at the heart of the global financial agenda. Scheduled for September 16 at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, the event is organized by AUM Advisors and hosted by MarcumAsia. Its program centers on CEOs from Japanese companies active in fusion energy, quantum computing, and advanced mobility. This is not a technical conference — it is a gathering for those who move capital.

The Japanese government has identified nuclear fusion as one of its strategic priority sectors for building the next generation of globally competitive companies. The Summit translates that policy agenda into concrete opportunities for institutional investors and international venture capital funds. The 2026 edition expands on the previous year — which drew more than 500 attendees — and now encompasses late-stage financing, secondary markets, and post-listing strategies. As the program makes clear, an IPO is not the finish line: it is a milestone.

Behind this vision lies an already active ecosystem. EX-Fusion, a Japanese startup specializing in laser fusion reactors, has raised capital from Mitsubishi UFJ Capital and SMBC Venture Capital. Kyoto Fusioneering has closed rounds totaling approximately $95 million, backed by Marubeni Corporation and Nichicon Corporation, earmarked for building test facilities designated UNITY-1 and UNITY-2. Mizuho Financial Group has invested in Zap Energy — becoming the first Japanese financial institution to back a foreign fusion reactor developer. Japanese capital is on the move, and it is doing so with a long-term industrial logic.

The global context reinforces this direction. Worldwide investment in nuclear fusion surged 69% over the past year, reaching a record $4.5 billion, with cumulative totals of $14.2 billion since 2021, according to the Fusion Industry Association. Japan is participating in this race on two fronts: through its own domestic startups and through active stakes in foreign companies. A consortium of 12 major Japanese corporations — including Mitsubishi, Mitsui, NTT, and Jera — has already invested in Commonwealth Fusion Systems, the MIT-backed startup aiming to operate a demonstration reactor by 2027 and a commercial plant in the early 2030s. The stated goal: acquire technical expertise to commercialize fusion in Japan before anyone else does.

On the industrial policy front, the Japanese Cabinet has updated its Fusion Energy Innovation Strategy with an explicit target: commercializing fusion in the 2030s, ahead of other nations. The Mitsubishi Research Institute is developing a business model framework covering cost structures and financing mechanisms for future prototype plants. Global spending on fusion demonstration facilities between 2026 and 2035 is estimated at more than £100 billion, according to the UKAEA. Japan intends to be inside that supply chain, not on the outside looking in.

If the September Summit delivers as planned, it will bring to Tokyo the funds that determine where global deep tech capital is allocated — General Atlantic, Coral Capital, and Artemis Ventures are among those already confirmed. For Japan’s fusion startups, the question is no longer whether investors will back them. It is whether they can build companies solid enough to sustain a Nasdaq listing and compete with their American and European counterparts. The answer will emerge over the course of this decade. The window to position, however, is open right now.
