The Macomb Group has opened a new branch in Wilmington, North Carolina: 22,100 square feet of warehouse and distribution space dedicated to industrial pipes, valves, and fittings (PVF). Among the sectors explicitly served is nuclear, alongside data centers, chemical plants, petroleum terminals, and government facilities.
The choice of Wilmington is no coincidence. The city is home to GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, one of the world’s leading advanced reactor designers, and sits roughly thirty miles from Duke Energy Progress’s Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, a nuclear facility that has been operational for decades. The local industrial landscape is already deeply rooted in nuclear energy, and the presence of a specialized PVF distributor addresses a concrete supply chain need in the area.
Located at 3940 U.S. Highway North, the facility covers four counties — New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Duplin — and also reaches the Fayetteville and Jacksonville markets. It marks another step in the deliberate Southeast expansion strategy that The Macomb Group has been executing with consistency. Founded in Michigan in 1977, the company now employs more than 800 people across over 30 branches in 11 states, spanning from Georgia to Wisconsin and from New Jersey to South Carolina.
Regional manager Johnny Daniel was straightforward in explaining the rationale: “The Wilmington area continues to grow rapidly,” creating real opportunities to better serve customers along the entire North Carolina coast. Having local staff and on-hand inventory cuts response times and strengthens business relationships — a simple formula, but a highly effective one in a sector like industrial supply for high-criticality facilities, where delivery speed matters as much as product quality.
For nuclear operations in particular, fast access to certified components and knowledgeable personnel is not a convenience — it is an operational requirement. Active plants and projects under development need suppliers capable of ensuring continuity, full traceability, and compliance with regulatory standards. A local branch with dedicated inventory reduces the risks associated with long supply chains and limits exposure to delays that, in a nuclear context, have direct consequences on plant operability.
Industrial growth across the U.S. Southeast shows no signs of slowing, driven by sustained investment in energy and digital infrastructure. Wilmington is positioning itself as a key logistics hub for the entire coastal Carolinas region.
