Amentum cut the ribbon on October 8, 2026: its Global Nuclear Headquarters is now officially open in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Located at 151 Lafayette Drive, the facility houses the company’s Nuclear Center of Excellence and serves as the central coordination hub for all of Amentum’s international nuclear operations. More than 150 technical and engineering experts are already working there, with a focus on advanced energy solutions.
The opening ceremony was attended by CEO John Heller and U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann, along with local government officials. Amentum employs approximately 50,000 people across more than 70 countries, making Oak Ridge far more than a regional outpost — it is the focal point around which the company intends to anchor its position in the global nuclear industry. Mark Whitney, President of the Energy & Environment division, described the choice as a direct result of Oak Ridge’s unique standing in America’s nuclear renaissance.
The Tennessee city has deep roots in nuclear history, dating back to the Manhattan Project. Amentum is already firmly embedded in that legacy: the company leads United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR), the $8.3 billion contract awarded by the Department of Energy for environmental remediation of the Oak Ridge Reservation. The new headquarters builds on this established operational foundation, with the goal of expanding energy capacity to meet the growing electricity demand across the United States.
Alongside the headquarters opening, Amentum launched the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program: a five-year, $500,000 investment establishing a scholarship pathway between Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The funding will support curriculum development and nuclear-focused scholarships. When combined with other STEM contributions already active in the Oak Ridge community, Amentum’s total support to the two institutions exceeds one million dollars. The program also includes direct internships with Amentum, bridging academic training with hands-on operational experience.
Oak Ridge is cementing its reputation as a magnet for the nuclear industry. Several operators have chosen the city in recent years, and the arrival of Amentum’s global headquarters further reinforces that trend. With demand for clean energy rising and Western governments once again turning to nuclear power as a strategic lever, having a center of excellence rooted in a region with decades of technical expertise is a position of real value. For Amentum, Oak Ridge is not simply a headquarters — it is a bet on where the next decade of nuclear energy will be built.
