Uranium in Saskatchewan: Radiometric Anomalies Identified in the Athabasca Basin

A high-resolution airborne survey at the Aurora Uranium Project has identified multiple radiometric anomalies linked to potential uranium sources, setting the stage for new drill targets in the Athabasca Basin. The entire campaign was funded by Traction Uranium Corp., which is working to acquire up to an 80% interest in the project from Cosa Resources.

A high-resolution airborne radiometric and magnetic survey at the Aurora Uranium Project, located in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin, has delivered tangible results: multiple radiometric anomalies, interpreted as potentially linked to uranium sources, have been identified near basement structures already considered prospective by geologists. The campaign was fully funded by Traction Uranium Corp. (CSE: TRAC; OTC: TRCTF; FRA: Z1K), which holds an option to acquire up to an 80% interest in the project from Cosa Resources Corp., the operator and property owner.

The results were jointly announced by both companies on August 4, 2026. The survey was carried out by Calgary-based Special Projects Inc. (SPI), under the direction of Cosa Resources. The program covered approximately 5,222 line-kilometres of processed radiometric and magnetic data, achieving 100% of planned coverage. Traverse lines were spaced 50 metres apart, with tie lines at 750-metre intervals — a configuration designed to ensure high resolution across the entire property. Field operations wrapped up in late June, with the crew and aircraft returning from their base at Points North Landing, Saskatchewan.

Aurora is situated in the southeastern portion of the Athabasca Basin, approximately 16 kilometres east of Cameco’s Key Lake Mill and its historic mine, and 40 kilometres south of the GMZ mining zone. The location is strategically significant: sandstone cover in this area is interpreted as thin or locally absent, making potential uranium targets near the surface more accessible. Several of the detected anomalies lie down-ice from basement structures previously identified by Cosa, further strengthening the exploration relevance of the targets.

The agreement between the two companies dates back to February 10, 2026. Traction has the right to acquire up to 80% of Aurora by solely funding $9.15 million in exploration expenditures and completing cash and share payments. The airborne campaign is part of this earn-in pathway. Cosa Resources’ team brings a strong technical pedigree to the project: members of its management were involved in IsoEnergy’s Hurricane deposit discovery — earning the AME Colin Spence Award in 2022 — and played key roles in the discovery of Denison’s Gryphon deposit, as well as in the founding of NexGen and IsoEnergy.

The data collected will be integrated with existing geological, geophysical, and remote sensing datasets to prioritize drill targets. The next phase includes diamond core drilling and ground radiometric surveys, expected in late summer or fall 2026. Should the targets prove consistent with the airborne anomalies, Aurora could rapidly advance to a more intensive exploration stage, further strengthening Traction’s foothold in the Athabasca Basin — one of the world’s most prolific uranium districts.
