Can nuclear energy help reduce global emissions?

Yes, if it replaces fossil fuel sources or avoids new fossil generation.

Nuclear's lifecycle emissions are low according to IPCC and UNECE. The IEA considers nuclear a low-emission technology useful for energy security and decarbonisation, especially in systems needing stable generation. The climate effect depends, however, on cost, timescales, and what is actually replaced: a reactor replacing coal avoids far more emissions than one replacing other low-carbon electricity.
