Does nuclear energy prevent the development of renewables?

Not necessarily.

Nuclear and renewables can compete for political and financial capital, but technically they can coexist. The IEA considers nuclear a low-emission source complementary to solar and wind, while integrating large shares of renewables requires flexibility, grids, and storage. The risk is not the technology itself, but incoherent planning that does not properly remunerate flexibility and capacity.
