Is it cheaper to build many gas-fired power plants?

Often cheaper in upfront capital, but the comparison is incomplete.

Gas-fired plants are faster and less expensive to build per installed MW, but they have variable costs linked to fuel, CO2, and geopolitical volatility. They also emit far more greenhouse gases. In a system aimed at decarbonisation, the comparison must include fuel costs, CO2 prices, supply security, backup capacity, and climate targets, not just the construction cost.
