After an accident does the territory remain uninhabitable forever?

The duration of restrictions depends on radionuclides, ground deposition, predicted dose, remediation, and regulatory criteria. Some areas of Chernobyl remain subject to strong restrictions, but not all contaminated territory is 'forever' uninhabitable. In Fukushima, many restrictions have been progressively revised based on monitoring and remediation. 'Forever' is an emotional simplification, not a technical conclusion.
